Autumn Term 2017
Our topic this term is ‘Superheroes’ and the children are keen to come into school dressed in their favourite superhero costume on Friday 15th September. In History, we will be studying the Great Fire of London and introducing firefighters as modern-day superheroes. We will be inviting local firefighters to visit us, so that we can link the past with the presen. After half term, the children will be learning about mapping in Geography. We have some exciting texts to explore in English and will be consolidating and extending our number skills in Maths. In science, we will be learning about the uses of materials. Further details can be found on the curriculum map, which can be accessed down below.
Our P.E day is Friday. Indoor kit comprising blue shorts, a white t-shirt and black plimsolls will be required. An outdoor kit including joggers may also be provided if you wish. Trainers or plimsolls may be worn outdoors. For health and safety reasons, long hair must be tied back. With winter approaching, could I ask that girls be provided with a pair of socks that they can wear for PE on those days on which they wear tights. Please ensure that earrings are removed on PE days. Local Authority Health and Safety states that if earrings cannot be removed, then children should not participate in PE activities.
Please label your child’s kit and ensure that their uniform is labelled too. This helps the children to manage their changing independently as 30 sets of matching uniform are very difficult to sort.
Children should be provided with water bottles which they will have access to throughout the say. Sports type lids are preferable, as there is less potential for spillage. Could I remind you that only plain water should be provided.
Details will be given to you ahead of the pool opening. Thank you for your patience.
Show and Tell
Many of the children have expressed interest in bringing things into school to share. With respect, we ask that they only bring items in on Fridays, when we will do our best to give the opportunity for this. You can help us by explaining that they will not get a turn every week to talk about their precious things. At all other times please encourage your child to leave toys at home as we cannot guarantee they will be kept safe in school.
Your positive comments about the children’s start to year 2 have been warmly received by all staff in Year 2, please keep them coming. We are looking forward to an exciting and stimulating term with your Superheroes.
